Spring break locations across Southern California.

When you think of spring break, sunny beaches and crowds of people dancing in bathing suits comes to mind. This one week where students are able to take a mini vacation in the middle of the school year to let loose and enjoy college life is always looked forward too.

In the past, virtually all would plan a get away to a destination this week where it was impossible not to come home with a tan. Unfortunately, with the bad economy, you will find students are on a pretty tight budget and not able to travel to Cancun or Miami like they used to.

Luckily, for Chaffey College students, we don't have to let our finances put a damper on our festivities. Being southern California residents, we can take advantage of living smack in the middle of all that is great.

With the mountains, beach, river, desert and beautiful cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, being driving distance away, there is no reason to let money cut back on our play.

Nursing major Courtney O’Deal is one of the many who tried to plan a cut-price Spring Break vacation. “ Lake Havasu is a great location for anyone who is looking to have a great time and not spend a lot of dough,” said O’Deal. “We camp, which cuts out half the cost of a hotel and spend most of our day on the water. The only thing you would really need to worry about is money for gas and food.”

If you are one of the many looking to have a great time at half the price, there is plenty to choose from right here in California.

If you're not a river rat, you may want to try the beach. By getting a group of people together and packing a lunch, it may be another low-budget day of fun in the sun.

Huntington Beach is beautiful and offers a street fair on Main Street every Tuesday. After catching some waves, you can cross the street and enjoy live music and great food.

Los Angeles is always a good choice for a day of fun. There are great restaurants, museums, and tons of tourist destinations. You may also want to visit Venice Beach for some fun shopping and people watching, or walk on the peer at Santa Monica. The Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood also has a pool party every Sunday.

San Diego has great shopping, bars, restaurants, and beaches. While out there, you may also want to check out the San Diego Zoo or Sea World. They have park hopper passes available at low rates as well.

Living in a place like California, there is tons to do at little cost. If you are one of the many who can’t take that cruise this year, you are not alone. Don't look at this as a misfortune, but a way to stay local and help spend money at home, and get California in better financial standings.
