The Rancho campus cafeteria is scheduled for demolition to make way for the new Campus Center.

“Students will admire this new innovated project,” said Jared G. Ceja, Director, Auxiliary Services.

By the end of the spring semester, in late May, construction will begin and will not be finished for approximately 14 months. It will take an additional two months to install equipment and furnish the building.

To supply students with access to food during this process, many options are being considered. Expanding the food options in the bookstore, building a convenience store on campus, regularly operating the Sports Complex snack bar, using vendors or caterers to supply lunch in the quad and opening coffee/smoothie carts on campus are some of the options that might be implemented during construction.

“I’m glad there is going to be a new cafeteria,” said Jake Eggan, an engineering major, “but the 14 months without a real cafeteria is an unfortunate inconvenience.”

This $9 million, two-story building will be 16,454 square feet and will have a kitchen, coffee bar, staff & faculty dining room, and offices for EOPS, career services student government and health services.

The new cafeteria is expected to have a general cafeteria plus a cafe with one or more local or national licensing agreements. These vendors have not yet been finalized.

“This will be a place where students, staff, and facility can come to relax, eat, talk, socialize, and hang out,” said Ceja.

“The Chaffey College Governing Board made a promise to the voters in our district to provide the space and services needed for the success of all of our students, faculty, and staff,” said Ciriaco Pinedo, executive assistant to the superintendent/president. “This Campus Center exemplifies the Governing Board’s commitment toward fulfilling that promise.”
