Due to the state budget cuts affecting all UC, Cal States and Community colleges, the number of summer school courses available at all three Chaffey campuses has dropped from last year’s 490 courses to 162.
According to the Dean of Language Arts Michael Dinielli and Dean of school of instructional support Laura Hope, the deans from all three campuses met and picked which classes would be on the curriculum for summer school.
The selection of courses was based on courses falling into at least two of three categories of general education, certificate courses and transferable credits.
If classes did not fall into two of the categories, it more than likely was not considered and is not a course offered in summer school.
Instead of the usual 15,000 students that attend all three campuses for summer there will only be room for 5,000 this year.
The classes will continue to be reduced until the budget is rectified. According to Dr. Henry Shannon it is predicted that there will be 18 more months of these difficult times.
Hope urges that the students who like to sign up for classes and drop them should hold on to the classes because availability of other classes is limited.
