Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island was amazing! Hats off to Leonardo DiCaprio for another brilliant and convincing performance. I would have to say it is one of the best psychological thrillers I have ever seen.
It reminded me of an all around higher quality Alfred Hitchcock film. You definitely have to pay attention to follow this film. You cannot sit watching for two hours and just zone out, or you will be completely lost.
The movie takes place in the 1950s where a U.S. Marshall, Teddy Daniels (played by Leonardo DiCaprio), is sent to a psych ward called Shutter Island to look for a criminally insane patient who has escaped after killing her two children.
As we watch Daniels try to find this missing person, it seems as though he ends up misplacing himself.
He begins to have flashbacks of dead children and finds that no one cares that there are supposed to be 67 patients on this island when there are only 66 accounted for.
I came up with three different endings before the end of this film. I couldn't help but try to unfold or solve the mystery. I must say the one laid out for me in the end left a chilling vision in my head that I will never forget.
Although at times I found myself a little lost and confused, once you see the ending it will totally sum everything up for you.
I found Shutter Island to be a great thriller, complete with twists and turns that will have you jump from your seat throughout the film. If you enjoyed Gothica, Silence of the Lambs, or A Beautiful Mind, then this film may be for you.
