If you’ve skimmed the pages of popular fashion magazines recently, you will have noticed the fashions are steadily becoming more and more inspired by the outrageous Lady Gaga. Whether or not you’re a fan of her garments, they aren’t practical, or even flattering. So where does one go for fashion inspiration? To movie stars, spending thousands of dollars on one pair of shoes? Not so realistic. And with Valentine’s Day drawing closer, many want to look their best but don’t know where to start.

So how do normal college girls look stylish this Valentine’s Day without spending too much money? Here are some tips and tricks I’ve found useful in the past, not just for V-Day, but for all fancy occasions.

1. Pick a celebrity whose style you admire, and interpret the chosen look in your own way.

2. Look at how others around you dress. What works for that person could work for you.

And most importantly:
3. Dress for your body type. Don’t worry about what’s in; if you know something doesn’t flatter you, don’t wear. Instead, look for things that do. This includes color. Not every color goes with every skin tone.

Since the traditional colors of Valentine’s Day are red, pink and sometimes purple, many girls may be tempted to wear them. Be aware that red is a tricky color to wear it. If your skin had natural reddish tones, a red dress might make you look red all over. So stick with what you know.

I myself like to wear the always classic combination of black and white and Valentine’s Day. No matter the occasion, no matter the skin tone, it is always a stylish choice.
Happy Styling!
