Black Dynamite, a movie produced by film maker Scott Sanders and Sony Pictures premiered Oct.16 at the Arclight Theatre.
Alfredo Fratti, a former graphic design major is attending because the dreams revolving around his first passion, music are finally taking shape.
He was one of several of Southern California’s finest musicians hand picked by composer Adrian Younge to perform the score for the film. After coming together in March of this year, the Black Dynamite Sound Orchestra has worked frantically to bring this film to life through music.
And Fratti, who attended Chaffey from 2006 to 2008 before leaving to pursue music was clearly up to the challenge.
“Freddy (Fratti) has been such a great addition to this group” Composer Younge said outside the premiere. “ he has such a selflessness about his work in which it's not about fame for him, its just what he loves”
That love grew from the rough upbringing Fratti had to endure to get to this point. He grew up poor and watched his parents struggle with drug addiction throughout his childhood. During this time he turned to music for escape like so many others have.
Musically inspired by bands like The Beatles and Oasis, he found an escape in playing guitar and drums and joined the drum line at Hesperia High School.
After his father’s death in 2004, Fratti left for Fontana and began attending Chaffey. His passion for music never left but actually grew stronger.
“ To think of what I’ve gone through and where I’ve come from to get to this point, it's hard not to get emotional, my life is proof of what perseverance, passion and good moral support can get you,” Fratti said.
Both the film and its soundtrack are receiving great reviews since its release. In fact, the Black Dynamite Sound Orchestra is being signed by New York record label Wax Poetics.
Fratti's journey from just another teenager using music to drown out the noise of life to up and coming musician seems to be just the beginning.
Regardless of where its going, the story is undoubtedly inspirational, but if you ask Fratti it's nowhere near impossible.
“If you go into something for the wrong reasons, people are going to know and nothing is going to happen, but if you have a true passion for something, follow it. No one can stop you but you,” Fratti said.
