GEM Committee, ASCC Celebrate Earth Day

Fifteen red booths ringed the quad, visited by dozens of curious students during the Earth Day celebration organized by the GEM Committee and ASCC on April 22. Several Clubs raised funds with food sales but most booths offered information and inspiration to create a greener world and for less money.

Surviving the Wild Lecture Offers Survival, Life Tips

The Surviving in the Wild lecture provided students with more than just tips on surviving in the wilderness.

The lecture, which was held at the Wignall Museum on April 27, was led by California Parks Ranger Tom Gunther who discussed various ways to enduring the wild.

Loomis Focuses On Cartoon Propaganda

Honored Faculty Lecturer of the Year Dan Loomis, professor of history and humanities, presented his topic "Cartoons, Psychological Warfare, and WWII or Willy and Joe Get Drafted" on April 21.

Loomis has been teaching at Chaffey since 1993, joining the full-time ranks in 1998.

Grad Fair Getting Students Excited

The end of the semester is rapidly approaching and so is graduation, with its set date for May 21.

With that date in mind, the Bookstore and the Alumni Association got together April 28-29 to host their first-ever Graduation Fair.

"We wanted to get the students excited about graduation," said Nick Nazarian, Director of Alumni Relations, which worked together with Jared Ceja, Director of Auxiliary Services, to bring the students this event.

Guerrero OK'd for Permanent VP of Instruction

Dr. Sherrie L. Guerrero, formerly the Dean of Language Arts, has recently been appointed the permanent position of Vice President of Instruction.

She has served in the interim position for the past year. She was selected following a nationwide and interviews with the four leading candidates.

Robotics Camp

On a sunny Saturday morning, students from some 8 junior high and high schools gathered in the Chaffey cafeteria for the 3rd session of a five week robotics camp. They had been learning to build robots to enter into a competition and on this morning, April 18, they would learn what they were up against as they set their robots for their debut run.

Car Show Nets $1,000 for Scholarships

The recently formed Chaffey College Car Club hosted its first annual car show on April 5. This was the car club's first attempt to assemble an event and raise money for future Chaffey College scholarships. I am pleased to announce that the car show was a complete success raising $500 for scholarships, which was matched for a total of $1,000.
