Theatre to some is just a dream, but to Monica Echeverria, of Rancho Cucamonga, it was a reality. She devoted her life to school plays, such as the play "Oklahoma!"

The Chaffey student died Tuesday, Jan. 27.

Echeverria was born in Fontana on May 4, 1986. She graduated from Aquinas High School in 2004 before continuing her education at Chaffey.

"I just love musical theatre, though a good drama is always nice to do," Echeverria was quoted as saying in 1995, according to her memorial announcement. She was an avid student in her school dramas as well as taking part in dance and music classes. Echeverria majored in Theatre, and it was her dream to be involved in theatre as a career.

A viewing was held on Feb. 5 at St. Joseph's Church in Upland. The burial took place at Resurrection Cemetery in Monterey Park on Feb. 6.

Many of Echeverria's fellow students as well as professors attended the funeral.

"I will always remember Monica as my happy student," Kristin Rooney, adjunct faculty said. "She always came to class with a smile."

"We've found out how important she really was and how loved she was by everyone, and it is truly touching to us to see that," the Echeverria family, said.

Echeverria leaves behind her father, Octavio, her mother, Maria, and a younger brother, Carlos.
