Campus thinks green

Schools everywhere are looking for ways to make better use of energy and become "green campuses," and Chaffey College is no different. The college is exploring a number of ways to reduce energy consumption on campus in an effort to make Chaffey a more environmentally friendly school. In fact, a new committee has recently been created to address environmental issues, according to Henry Shannon, president and superintendent of Chaffey College. The committee, the GEM of the Valley Task Force, has been assembled in order to find, discuss, and implement new ways of making Chaffey a more sustainable school. The goals of the GEM Task Force include improving energy conservation and looking into sources of renewable energy, as well as implementing new curriculum related to sustainability and the environment. The latter will serve to get students more involved in environmental issues. Shannon himself has another idea to get students more involved in conserving energy. The college is currently looking into the possibility of having a tram on campus to shuttle students across campus. This would hopefully reduce the number of students who move their cars between parking lots in order to avoid having to trek across campus to make it to class - thus reducing gasoline consumption by students, not to mention reducing traffic in the parking lots.
