Sanjaya: LIVING THE AMERICAN DREAM

The world is on the brink of a Civil War — well, we're already in a Civil War…certain people *cough* Republicans *cough* just can't admit it. Trusted teachers and Church figures are molesting children and getting away with it. Prisons are so overcrowded that killers are being released back into society, Anna Nicole's baby's daddy has finally been revealed, but even with all of these important goings on to grab our attention, the word on everyone's lips is — heavenly music in the background — ... Sanjaya!

Howard Stern was one of the main reasons for Sanjaya's invincibility, along with little girls who adored his beautiful hair, thick eyebrows, puppy dog eyes, and unnaturally perfect smile. Stern spent at least 30 minutes of his show talking about Sanjaya and also help promote VotefortheWorst.com (self-explanatory). "It makes me feel really good that we could ruin something. That appeals to me for some dark, dark reason. We're corrupting the entire thing," Stern said. I for one am completely for it.

The 17-year-old Indian from Washington is entangled in a love / hate relationship with America, the likes that has never been witnessed — on American Idol anyway. His presence had people who don't even watch the over-hyped karaoke contest interested — a little. There is so much controversy over the fact that he lasted so long on the show. According to most people, he shouldn't have even been in the top 24. Idol loyalists were in a frenzy, going on ridiculous hunger strikes or refusing to put their dentures back in — like Stu from Morning Stiffy on 96.7 — until Sanjaya's reign on Idol was over! But why?

Who's to say what an American Idol is supposed to be? If Britney Spears and Jennifer Lopez can have successful "singing" careers, then why not Sanjaya? Sure, he's no William Hung, but he'll have to do for now. He may lack talent, but hey…he has good hair, that should count for something.

Can we honestly blame him for wanting to live the American dream? Who doesn't want to get as much as you can with as little effort and talent as possible? You too could have helped make Sanjaya's American dream a reality like the people at votefortheworst.com or Howard Stern. Unfortunately, people did not perform their patriotic duty and Sanjaya was kicked off of the show Wednesday the 18th...so I hope you're all happy. Well, at least Stu can finally put his teeth back in!
